With this year’s vintage approaching in the coming month. The Frankland River Winemakers & Grape Growers Association would like to update you all on how the season is tracking. The cooler than normal start to spring and summer has delayed the start of vintage till March.

We aim to provide regular updates as vintage progresses during March and April, over social media, local websites, and the local shire newsletters. In the meantime, if anyone has any questions on how vintage is progressing, please contact Kim Lange on 0427 774 334. Here’s to a fruitful 2023 vintage!

Vintage Update

28th February 2023

Vintage has started for some wineries, bringing in some small batches for their sparkling wines. Over the next couple weeks, we should see the whites starting to be picked. These varieties include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Riesling.

This year is a late start due to a cool Spring and early Summer. The reds are only just finishing veraison (colour change). We should see most reds being picked through April in this area.

Vintage Update

21st March 2023

Vintage is well under way, with the first varieties harvested in the region including Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. While yields appear to be down a little, quality looks good. Red varieties such as Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon will start to be harvested in the coming weeks. While vintage while progressing well, we still have a long way to go!
